Lauren here – intern extraordinaire – ready to begin introducing you to our magnificent spread of playwrights that are adding great color and depth to our upcoming season!
The first playwright of our season is the brilliant and innovative Amy Herzog, playwright of After the Revolution, which will be premiering September 7th and running through October 6th of this year. After the Revolution has been seen previously at the Williamstown Theater Festival and Playwrights Horizons, and the production has received the John Gassner Award Nomination from the Outer Critics Circle Awards and the Lily Award through Playwrights Horizons. Needless to say, those who attend this production at Theater J are definitely in for treat!
Herzog has also won the 2012 Obie Award for Best New American Play for 4000 Miles (Lincoln Center). Her other plays include Belleville (Yale Repertory Theater, upcoming at NYTW in Spring 2013) and The Wendy Play (ACT, San Francisco).
Herzog has had readings and workshops in various venues including Steppenwolf, Manhattan Theater Club, New York Stage and Film, Arena Stage in Washington, D.C., Lincoln Center, and many more . She has received commissions from Playwrights Horizons, Yale Rep, and Steppenwolf, and she is also a recipient of the Whiting Writers Award and the Helen Merrill Award. Herzog credits her playwriting eduction to Youngblood, Play Group, and the Soho Rep Writer/Director Lab, and she has gone on to share her expertise with aspiring playwrights, having taught playwriting at Bryn Mawr and Yale. M.F.A., Yale School of Drama.
