Coming This Friday: A New Play by Vaclav Havel

Our New Play Development series rolls on with Vaclav Havel’s first new play in 18 yearsLEAVING — which be read in our Tea @ 2 series tomorrow, Friday, February 22 at 2 pm. Because of the large cast, we’ve moved the reading to the theater. So bring a friend or two or three for a remarkable gathering of talent.

This satirical, Chekhovian flavored play with an overlay of KING LEAR, follows a former government Chancellor as he retires from office and his dispossessed of his stately home. Everyone wants a piece of what he’s losing. And the Chancellor wonders what he’s left with. It’s the most autobiographical play that the renowned playwright and former dissident, former President of Czechoslovakia (1989-1992) and first President of the Czech Republic (1993-2003) has ever written!

The cast includes Michael Tolaydo (PANGS OF THE MESSIAH), Valerie Leonard (A BAD FRIEND), Barbara Rappaport (ROSE), Jaclyn DiLauro (Shakespeare Theatre), Lindsay Haynes (PANGS OF THE MESSIAH), Julie-Ann Elliott (BORN GUILTY/PETER AND THE WOLF), Meghan Grady (SPEED-THE-PLOW), Eric Messner (Round House Theatre), Jeff Allin (BAL MASQUE), Alexander Strain (PANGS OF THE MESSIAH), Michael Kramer (CENTRAL PARK’RIVERSIDE DRIVE), newcomer to Theater J Craig Klein, Nigel Reed (MRS.
