Monday night was the biggest party night for the DC Theater community, the Helen Hayes Awards. Theater J was nominated for three awards: Outstanding Choreography, Irina Tsikurishvili, The Dybbuk, Synetic Theater and Theater J, Outstanding Lighting Design, Resident Production, Colin K. Bills, The Dybbuk Synetic Theater and Theater J and The Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play or Musical, Richard Greenberg, Bal Masque, Theater J.
We didn’t win anything. But many of the winners were artists with close ties to Theater J:
Outstanding Choreography, Resident Production – Irina Tsikurishvili, Frankenstein, Synetic Theater as part of The Kennedy Center’s Prelude Festival (choreographer and Leah in for the Synetic/Theater J co-production The Dybbuk)
Outstanding Set Design, Resident Production – James Kronzer, The Beaux’ Stratagem, Shakespeare Theatre Company (currently designing the set for EITHER OR)
Outstanding Supporting Actress, Resident Musical – Donna Migliaccio, Assassins, Signature Theatre (soon to be reprising her role in SHLEMIEL THE FIRST)
Outstanding Ensemble, Resident Play or Musical – The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui, Catalyst Theater Company (winners include Elizabeth Richard, currently in EITHER OR)
Congratulations to all who won Helen Hayes Awards!
